This policy explains how Pixelite SL ("we", "us") handles personal data in connection with Twain, this website, and purchases. We are the data controller for the personal data described here.
Twain renders your documents on your Mac. Their contents, their names, and where they live on disk are never sent to us or to anyone else. There is no account.
Two things reach us without you asking: a daily check for a new version, and the check-in in section 2. Both tell us your IP address. Everything else is something you asked for, such as following a link or loading an image a document references. In the Finder Quick Look preview, remote content is always blocked.
Twain sends us a short check-in at launch, when you enter a licence key, and when you start a trial. It carries the app version, whether you are running free, on trial or licensed, which day of a trial you have reached, and a one-way fingerprint of your licence key. Nothing else: no name, no email address, no identifier for your Mac, nothing about your documents. We use it to see how many people use Twain, on which versions, and how many Macs a licence is used on. It cannot affect your licence.
You can turn it off in Twain's settings, under Privacy. That does not stop update checks, which is how security fixes reach you. The App Store version does not send it at all.
Purchases are handled by Paddle.com as our Merchant of Record. When you buy Twain Pro, Paddle collects the billing information needed to complete the sale, such as your name, email address, billing country, and payment details, and processes your payment. We never see or store your full payment card details. Paddle then shares limited order information with us, typically your name, email address, country, and order reference, so we can deliver your licence key and provide support. Paddle's handling of your data is governed by the Paddle Privacy Notice.
If you contact us for support, we process your email address and the contents of your message so we can help you and keep a record of the correspondence.
The marketing site does not run advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and nothing here builds a profile of you or follows you onto other sites.
We measure traffic two ways. Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies and without storing anything on your device, so it cannot recognise you on a later visit; it needs no permission and runs for everyone. Google Analytics is different, because it sets cookies to tell repeat visits apart. It loads only if you accept it in the banner shown on your first visit. If you decline, or ignore the banner, it is never loaded at all. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we take that as a decline and do not ask.
Besides page views, both tools record a handful of actions so we can tell how often a visit ends in something useful: starting the download, opening the checkout, completing a purchase (with its amount and order reference), and asking for a lost licence key. None of these carry your name or email address. If you declined, none of them reach Google at all, including any you took before answering the banner.
You can change your answer whenever you like, using the Cookies link in the footer of any page. Withdrawing consent stops Google Analytics and deletes the cookies it had set.
During checkout, Paddle may set cookies that are necessary to process your order; these are covered by Paddle's own policies. Your answer to the banner, and whether you chose light or dark mode, are kept on your device alone and are never sent to us.
We use your data to deliver your licence and provide support (to perform our contract with you), and to meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations (to comply with the law).
The check-in in section 2 is not part of that contract. We rely on our legitimate interest in knowing how our software is used, weighed against your privacy: it carries no identifier for you or your Mac, stores nothing on your Mac, and you can turn it off. The same legitimate interest covers the cookieless website measurement in section 5, which stores nothing on your device either. Google Analytics runs on your consent alone, which is why it does nothing until you accept and stops when you withdraw. We do not sell your personal data or use it for advertising.
We share data only with providers that help us run the product. Paddle handles payment and order processing. Our email provider sends your licence key and carries support replies. Vercel hosts this website and the small services behind it, which means order details pass through it when your licence is issued or recovered, and it keeps standard server logs that include IP addresses. If you accept analytics cookies, Google processes your visits to this site for Google Analytics. These providers process data on our behalf, except Paddle, which is also an independent controller for payment.
We keep order and support records for as long as needed to provide support and to meet legal and tax obligations, after which they are deleted or anonymised.
Our providers may process data in countries outside your own. Where they do, appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) apply.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these, email us at the address below. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
You can object to the check-in by turning it off in Twain's settings, under Privacy. Check-ins already received carry nothing that identifies you, so there is nothing in them we could find and delete on request.
We may update this policy from time to time; the effective date above will change when we do.
